Art is my psychologist. I take pictures to show the way I see things. I draw to show how I feel. Creating art, for me, is like lying down on that couch and telling myself to the world. When I snap a photograph, I try to present the viewer with the beauty I see in our every day world. Beauty, to me, means something interesting and attractive, not necessarily something pleasant to look at. I do enjoy taking pictures of the brighter side of life, everybody is always so depressing at my age that I feel like we need a reminder of how great we have it. My photographs create a pensive atmosphere without adding the pity feeling attached to most photographs taken by my age group. My drawings are focused on displaying the inner-workings of my head. Sometimes my art is supposed to make the observer feel sad and sometimes the art is more whimsical. Since art is a window to my brain, anything is possible. My current photographs are mostly taken of people or interesting patterns. I love being able to capture those rare moments when people are genuinely happy and moments where everything just fits in that exact moment of time. Recently, I have been attempting to draw things exactly how I see them in a split second of time. My philosophy as of late is just to appreciate everything I see. As Helen Keller once said, “Use your eyes as if tomorrow you would be stricken blind.”
